Game #2

Ferris vs. University

It might not have been a thing of beauty, but the Saxons figured out a way to beat the University Titans 10-7.  The defense played very well with the Titans only scoring coming on a fluke reception (that had been intercepted and then bounced in the air).  Senior Cameron Elisara, playing with an injured ankle, continued to be a factor and got some help with great defensive efforts from Senior Byron Stevens and Freshman Kaleb Broderick, who got his first Varsity start.

The offense, struggling at times to get something going, was led by Senior QB Caleb Rath who threw for 126 yards and ran for 73.  The sole TD came at the end of the 2nd quarter.  The Saxons sustained a long drive and went for it on 4th and goal.  Rath kept the ball and was unable to score, however, got a key first down at the 1 yard line.  On the following play, Sophomore Shawn Stockton ran in into the endzone untouched with a nifty little cutback move.

In the fourth quarter, the Saxons again sustained a long drive and got to the University 12 yard line. Unable to get it into the endzone, Kicker Pat Burke came in and calmly split the uprights with a 29 yard field goal to put the Saxons ahead for good with about two and a half minutes to go.  The Titans attempted a game winning drive, however, CJ Patrick put an abrupt end to that by intercepting the ball and sealing the Saxon victory.
