In the early game at Joe Albi
stadium on Thursday, the Ferris Saxons relied on
defense (again), timely turnovers, a new found
running game and also a new found offensive threat
in Pat Parham, to win the game over the Mead
Panthers 7-3.
The Saxons got 225 yards of
offense and of that 176 yards were on the ground.
QB Jeff Minnerly lead the way with 80 yards rushing,
and McKenzie Murphy added another 53. While
the passing game was relatively quiet this game, it
was a 3 yard pass from Minnerly to Parham in the 3rd
quarter that finally got the Saxons on the board
with their one and only touchdown.
In the first half, Mead threatened
4 times inside the 20 and came away with nothing.
Jared Karstetter picked off a pass in the endzone
for a touchback, the defense held the Panthers twice
on 4th down conversions and finally the Panthers
fumbled on the 3 yard line.
It was another great effort by the
Saxons, making the needed adjustments at halftime
and just coming out refusing to lose. With
this win the Saxons go to 5-1 and makes next weeks
game vs University very important regarding
playoffs.
