The Ferris Saxons took the field
Friday trying to avoid a let down after their
huge win against LC.
The Saxons did just that on the
way to there 35-14 victory agains the
Highlanders of Shadle Park. On the very first
play from scrimmage, after a Nate Tonani kick
return out to the 43 yard line, the Saxons ran a
trick play. The reverse pass worked to
perfection as Jared Karstetter hooked up with
Aaron Roberts for the 57 yard score. This was
Jareds first touchdown pass and Roberts first
touchdown of their careers. Andrew Weigand
caught a 8 yard shovel pass for a touchdown and
Mackenzie Murphy added a 1 yard touchdown run
later in the first and at the end of one it was
the Saxons 21 Shadle 0.
In the beginning of the 2nd
quarter however, the Highlanders capped off a
good drive with a 3 yard touchdown run. It was
then 21-7. However, the Saxons vaunted passing
attack of Minnerly to Karstetter took over the
rest of the quarter, with the two hooking up for
2 12 yard touchdown passes with Jared on the
receiving end. By the time halftime came, the
game was over with the score 35-7.
The Saxons had 376 pass yards
total with Jeff Minnerly having 319 of them.
Jeff added 3 touchdown passes to Jared's one.
Karstetter also added 174 receiving yards in a
game completely dominated by the Saxons
.
The second half was a very
productive time for the Saxons as many young
guys got to play. Backup quarterback Sophomore
Drew Henry got some vital snaps in his first
varsity experience.
The game wasn't all good for the
Saxons however, sophomore defensive end Taylor
Powell strained his knee. He is listed as
questionable for this week.
This game just made next weeks
game against Gonzaga Prep that much more
important. "Every time you guys win the next
game becomes that much more important," said
Seattle Seahawks coach of the week Jim Sharkey.
The game on this Friday is at Joe
Albi Stadium is at 8:30 between the Saxons, who
are ranked 10th in the state, and the Bullpups,
ranked 3rd. I know we could really use the
support and help for this game.
