Saxons Cruise into Semis
The Ferris Saxons struck quick, hard and fast and left no doubt as to who the best team was on Saturday afternoon. They beat the visiting Graham-Kapowsin Eagles 49-14. Graham-Kapowsin was never able to get anything going with their vaunted running game. Granted, the Eagles were without Marcel Smith, however, the Saxons held the visitors to a total of 35 yards rushing on 33 attempts.
The first half of the game was probably the best 24 minutes of football that the Saxons have put together. The defense held the Eagles scoreless and the offense, led by QB Jeff Minnerly, scored 35 points. Minnerly threw 4 touchdowns in the first half and looked as though he could do whatever he wanted. The offensive line gave Minnerly all kinds of time and he took complete advantage as he picked apart the Eagles for 242 yards.
The second half belonged to McKenzie Murphy. Making his presence known on both offense and defense, Murphy was all over the field. He easily had the "hit of the game" when he sacked the Eagles QB and laid a hit that was HUGE. Murphy also scored 3 rushing touchdowns and had his biggest rushing game (129 yards) of the season.
Next for the Saxons is the team from Bothell.
