Ferris Football answers
questions.
If there were any questions about whether or not the first two games of the season were representative of the Saxons or not, they were answered in Thursday nights football game against Lewis and Clark. It was far and away their toughest challenge yet, however, the Ferris Saxons maintained their composure and beat the LC Tigers, 19-6. While the offense has been getting most of the attention, the defense did not allow a TD and has only allowed 1 in the first 3 games of the season.
The Saxons were held to 175 yards of total offense in this defensive struggle between the two south hill teams. QB Jeff Minnerly threw for 127 yards and a TD as he spent alot of the evening under pressure. Without Shawn Stockton in the game, the Tigers were able to double and triple cover WR Jared Karstetter and keep him under wraps. Karstetter had 47 yards and managed to catch an 8 yard TD pass.
At the start of the second half, junior transfer from LC, Garret Saiki, raced 99 yards to score the Saxons first TD.
The Saxons were able to hold the Tigers offensive weapon, RB Alex Shaw, to only 40 yards rushing. McKenzie Murphy had an interception in the first half and Erick Cheadle had a drive killing interception in the 4th quarter that sealed the game.
Ferris has won 8 of the last 9 meetings between these two schools.
