Ferris 23, Mead 7
Saxons are Back
After last weeks thriller, the Saxons appeared to be
back and showed why they are one of the top ranked teams in the
state. The Saxons put together a solid effort and beat the
Mead Panthers to advance in the state 4A football tournament.
They took advantage of 5 Mead turnovers and never let Mead get
anything going in the second half.
The Saxons played great defense giving up only one
touchdown on a big play. Mead got into the red zone once and
missed a field goal, outside of that the Saxons were never truly
threatened. Karstetter picked off Mead QB Reser twice and
Andrew Weigand picked him off once.
There was a lot of hard hitting going on in this
game. Offensive lineman Scott Wenke absolutely "de-cleated" a
Panther D-lineman and LB Erick Cheadle laid a hit on Reser that sent
him flying into the Ferris sideline.
Offensively, the Saxons were able to spread out the
scoring. Murphy and Stockton ran for TD's and Minnerly and
Karstetter hooked up for a TD reception at the end of the first
half. While everyone played solid, there didn't appear to be
any real offensive standouts - it was a great team effort.
There was a moment in the second half when a bank of
fog rolled in and at times made it difficult to even see across the
field. It was something.
Next up is Graham-Kapowsin. They have beat
Evergreen and South Kitsap so far in the 4A tournament. Click
here to learn a little about them.

In a fog-filled second half, Mckenzie Murphy breaks
off a big run against the Panthers.
