Friday night was
a great high school football game. It was a
scene from the Friday Night Lights movie - a packed
high school "stadium", two undefeated teams, lots of
hard hitting, emotions flying, crucial third down
conversions, and great plays being made by both
teams on both sides of the ball. Ferris came
out on top beating CV 27-23 in probably the best GSL
game of the season thus far.
The scoreless first
quarter was a battle of field position with each
team having difficulty getting any offense going.
CV got on the board first with an impressive 42 yard
field goal. Ferris answered with a nice drive
of their own and got a Halliday to Saiki TD pass.
At the end of the half Ferris trailed 10-6. |

At the start of the
second half, Ferris put together a drive that was
stalled and then CV began to march down the opposite
way looking like they might score. That's when
Sr Aaron Roberts made a nice interception on an
ill-advised pass from CV. Ferris marched down
the field and Roberts punched it in with a 4 yard TD
run.
The Bears began
the ensuing drive on their 20 yard line and tried a
little swing pass to the far side. That's when
CV was introduced to Sophomore Linebacker Grant
Livingston. He sniffed out the play and laid
an absolutely perfectly timed hit on the receiver
forcing a fumble and turnover. The crowd went
crazy!! Ferris scored on a second Halliday to
Saiki connection - momentum shift! The fourth
quarter the Saxons controlled with Aaron Roberts
scoring another rushing TD with about 2 minutes to
go. CV wouldn't go away though, they were able
to make the score 27-23 with 38 seconds remaining.
Ferris recovered the on-sides kick - game over. |
OLD MAN MINN NOTES: Great
atmosphere at CV, it was everything you would want in a high
school football game....Livingston wasn't the only player
with a big hit - Aaron Roberts had one too, unfortunately he
was on the wrong end of a big hit in the first quarter -
kudos to Aaron for jumping up and getting right back in
there....is it me or does it seem like Kicker Alex Belling
is kicking the ball a long ways on kickoffs? he really seems
to be improving that aspect of his game....Ferris is now in
sole possession of first place in the GSL with two games
remaining....Congratulations to the Rogers Pirates for
getting their first GSL win last Friday night!! They
beat the NC Indians 49-7
