Ferris @ Eastmont

A WINS A WIN
Saxons get a win on the road

We (SaxonSports) missed our first Varsity football game in 4 years and unfortunately are relying on reports, texts and second hand information to compile this report.

As you probably know by now, Ferris won the game 21-12 in a game that saw two very different halves of football, bad weather, turnovers, lots of (questionable) penalties and the introduction of two players getting their first varsity starts.

Ferris came out in the first half and scored on two of their first three possessions.  QB Derek Peterson, making his first varsity start, appeared in control and making the most of his opportunity.  He rushed for nearly 100 yards in the first half and hit a streaking Garrett Saiki for a 70 yard touchdown completion in the second quarter.  Along with Saiki's TD, Aaron Roberts added two more and Ferris led at the half 21-6.  Also, the first half saw the debut of new running back Kevin Wright who ended up with 63 yards in the game.

Then came the second half.

With the torrential downpour, Ferris had a tough time hanging on to the ball.  They committed 5 (maybe 6??) turnovers in the second half.  Four turnovers came on bad QB-RB exchanges and one came on an interception and they happened on successive possessions.  The good news out of all this is that the Ferris D came up big.  With the number of turnovers and field position that Eastmont had, the fact that all they scored in the second half was one TD is simply amazing.

A wins a win and in football they don't grade you on style points.  Five and oh...and preparing for Shadle.

OLD MAN MINN NOTES: Not much to add here because I wasn't at the game, so let's look ahead...Next week it's Shadle Park at 2-3, this will be a good time for Ferris to get settled back in and make a push for the final stretch...After that Ferris has three potentially tough games - first is CV at 5-0 and many are saying that this game will decide the GSL championship, second is the south hill rival LC at 3-2.  LC will most likely be at or near full strength after being bit by the injury bug - and finally, finishing with U-Hi at U-Hi...So Ferris Football boys, don't YOU look ahead - leave that to me :) - just take care of business, and like they say, just take it one game at a time - the rest will take care of itself...
