Saxons Missed Opportunities vs Prep

The Ferris Saxons lost 38-35 Friday night to the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups at Albi stadium.  The Saxons had their chances to win this game and just were never able to convert those opportunities into the points needed to get ahead.  The game was a stark contrast in football styles - both very effective (both teams combined for over 850 yards of O).  Prep has a grind  it out running game, and Ferris a spread offense.  Both teams had big plays, prep just had one or two more.

Prep started the game out with a 7 minute time consuming, touchdown scoring drive.  The Saxons came right back and marched down the field with a drive and score of of their own to answer.  Prep continued to keep the ball on the ground throughout the first half with both the prep QB and RB getting scores and big runs.

In the 3rd quarter, the Bullpups extended their lead to 21 points, leading 35-14.  The Saxons would not give up and continued to pick away at the lead.  In the fourth quarter, the SaxonD forced and recovered two fumbles that the offense was unable to capitalize on. Down 38-21 with minutes remaining the Saxons Drew Sharkey scored his second TD of the game from 1 yard out.  Then with about two minutes remaining Prep intercepts Ferris and then they fumble it right back.  So Ferris takes the ball the distance and gets another TD and pulls to within 3 points.   On the ensuing on-sides kickoff the Pups recovered and then ran the clock out.

Connor Halliday had a huge night passing with 41 attempts, 30 completions, 2 TD's and 393 yards through the air.  Prep countered with Bishop Sankey, who had 222 yards on 28 carries and 2 TD's.

OLD MAN MINN NOTES : There is no question the Saxons were prepared for the Prep offense, it's nothing new, just give credit to the Pups for how well they ran it....on the flip side, the Saxons ran their offense and ran it well, you can't argue with 393 yards passing... Jason Bates had a career night statistically, 14 catches for 183 yds and a TD... Must have been warm on the field, seemed like both teams had a lot players cramp up - hydrate boys!...did anyone else notice that Riley Stockton was playing in this game? Hey Riley, didn't your uncle have a little something going on that night? talk about Team First - way to go Riley!.... Devin Irving tough break, hang in there, your team is with you...Alright Saxons, time for short term memory and forget about this loss and focus on the Panthers - Thursday night at Albi...
