The Ferris Saxons continued their 2008
football campaign with another victory. This time it
was over the visiting Jackson Timberwolves by a score or
24-7. In a statistically very even game, the game
boiled down to - Ferris got the ball in the endzone and
Jackson didn't. There were some big hits on both sides
of the ball, the offense got a couple of big plays and the
Saxon defense stymied the vaunted running game of the
Timberwolves. Saxons move on and the T-wolves go home
after a good season.
The first half was a game of field position.
Ferris had great field position throughout the first half
(in fact most of the game that was the case) and it seemed
that most of the first half was played in Jackson territory.
To the Timberwolves credit, they held Ferris' quick striking
offense to only 10 points. The sole TD in the first
half was a great scramble, throw and catch involving QB
Connor Halliday and WR Jason Bates. Halliday avoided a
sack, began to run, saw Bates running a post pattern and
then threw a perfect ball that only Jason could catch - and
he did!!
The second half was more of the same with
Ferris scoring a TD in each quarter. Jackson most
likely won the time of possession, however, turnovers killed
them along with a smothering defense. The Saxon D were
glad to have a healthier Nate Tonani back for his second
game. He was much more active and agile this game than
last. He had the first two tackles of the game and was
in the Jackson backfield a number of times.
The GSL continued their eastside dominance
with CV beating the CBBN number one team, Southridge, 28-14.
From the sounds of things it could have been alot worse than
the score indicated, as CV had two TD's called back on
penalties. So now it's CV vs Ferris this week.
Game is tentatively scheduled for Friday night at CV.
Stay tuned for details - we will post the game time and
place as soon as we know for sure.
OLD MAN MINN NOTES: I was
surprised to see the stats after this game - Ferris seemed
to be dominating on Defense and yet total yardage was 227 to
215 in favor of the Saxons....Kudos to QB Connor Halliday -
although his numbers weren't off the charts he didn't throw
a pick and did a good job managing the game...Jason Bates
was the leading receiver for the Saxons - nice job
Jason!....Next week, CV. This is shaping up to be a
great game, although with the way the GSL is dominating it
will be too bad that the eastside will be down to one
representative in the State Tournament....Check out the
tournament bracket -
Bothell is looking strong, Skyline of course is playing
tough and undefeated Olympia was upset by Central Kitsap
14-10....C'mon Saxons let's keep it going!!
