Ferris vs Lewis and Clark

Saxons Stumble in Close Game

The Ferris Saxons lost their first game of the season on Friday night.  It was a hard fought battle against a very tough nosed LC Tiger team.  The Saxons lost 15-14 and now look to regroup as they head into the final week of the 2008 GSL season.

The Saxons started out strong in the first quarter jumping up 7-0 on a 65 yard Halliday to Robers catch and run that saw Aaron Roberts - who had 163 yards receiving - dart through traffic and show off his speed as he pulled away in the last 15 yards.  Shortly after that, the LC punter made a mistake and had his knee down on the one as he attempted to handle the snap.  It was Ferris first and goal on the one and Roberts took a direct snap and scored his second TD of the quarter.  It was 14-0 and it appeared as though the route may have been on.

In the second quarter Ferris was driving deep into LC territory when Halliday dropped back to throw and LC made a jump on the ball and intercepted the pass.  LC was able to score off of that interception and the half ended 14-7.  The third quarter was scoreless and most of the fourth quarter was too.

With about 5 minutes remaining, the Tigers scored on a one yard run and trailed 14-13.  After an LC timeout, the Tigers gambled and went for two - and got it.  Plenty of time left.  The Saxons got the ball back three more times in those five minutes but where unable to get a score - the three possessions ended in a punt, interception and then ran out of time.  As usual, it was a great game between LC and Ferris.

OLD MAN MINN NOTES:  This is Ferris' first regular season loss since losing to G-Prep in 2006 - not a bad stretch....Penalties killed the Saxons - at the start of the second half, Ferris surprised LC by attempting a pooch kick and appeared to recover, however, were flagged for off-sides - there were also a few PI calls that kept drives alive for LC....the run game for the Saxons was non-existent only 18 yards total for the game...Connor Halliday and Taylor Eglet combined for over 500 yards passing between both teams....This week Ferris plays U-High on Halloween night and with a win Ferris will secure a playoff spot....U-High lost this week to Mead 55-0.... Alright Saxons, shake this off and take care of business against U-High.
