FERRIS BLANKS MEAD - 34-0
Saxon defense makes statement
The Ferris Saxons
continued their GSL dominance at Albi Stadium Friday night
by taking care of the Mead Panthers 34-0. The Saxons
did it with a good passing game, strong running game, nice
kicking game and most impressively on defense.
The Saxons defense served
up a bagel to the Mead Panthers, who struggled mightily to
get anything going - and in fact, they never did get
anything going. The Saxons held the Panthers to a mere
55 yds passing and picked off the Mead QB 4 times!!!
Perhaps the most exciting pick happened right before the end
of the first half. Garrett Saiki made a jump on
the ball, picked it off and took it to the house.
There was also great games by Andrew Weigand who was
flying around on D and forced two fumbles and recovered one.
Also, CJ Haney was a shut down corner defending and
deflecting passes beautifully!!
Offensively, the Halliday-Roberts
connection is gaining momentum. Conner Halliday
threw for 325 yards no TD's and no INT's. Halliday's
favorite target, Aaron Roberts, had another exciting
night catching 10 passes for 122 yards. Nathan Tonani
ran for a team leading 79 yards and had two strong runs for
touchdowns in the first half. Mid-way through the 4th
quarter, Derek Peterson made an appearance and made
the most of his opportunity. He threw a nice ball to a
fading Jordan Tonani, who made a really great grab
for the TD.
As the saying goes,
offense will win you games but defense will win you
championships. The Ferris Saxons have a fast, swarming
defense that are really starting to click as a unit.
They are poised to make a nice run this season. Good
job boys, keep working hard.
OLD MAN MINN NOTES:
The Saxons are really separating themselves from the rest of
the GSL- they appear to be quicker and stronger than any of
their opponents so far....The Saxons have won their last 15
GSL league games dating back to 2006....Kudos to Trevor
Poole who finally got some game action after missing a
couple weeks with an injury....Only two teams remain
undefeated in the GSL - Ferris and CV.....CV beat Lewis and
Clark 33-21....Next week is Mt. Spokane who Ferris hasn't
played in 2 years... Mt. Spokane has lost to Mead but beat a
Clarkston team and whooped NC 48-6.
