Ferris vs. G-Prep
Saxons Stand Tall over Prep

It was a game that was supposedly going to help both teams "know where they stand in the GSL".  Well, if that is true, Ferris is standing tall after whooping up on Gonzaga Prep Friday night 37-13.  The Saxons dominated the line of scrimmage, dictated the tempo of the game and held the Bullpups to 195 yards of total offense.  There was no question who the better team was on the field.

After Ferris fumbled a punt reception that Prep recovered, Gonazaga punched it in and was ahead 6-0 after missing the extra point.  It didn't look good at the start.  But hold on, here comes Conner Halliday and the Ferris offense.  Going with a no-huddle offense and keeping the Bullpups on their heels, the Saxons marched down the field and Nate Tonani scored on a 1 yd run.  The remainder of the first half was not real pretty.  Turnovers and penalties were hurting the Saxons and they were their own worst enemy.  They did close the half out with a nice throw, catch and run from Halliday to Garrett Saiki and lead 16-6 at the half.

The second half the Saxons cleaned things up.  After the Saxons went 3 and out on their first possession, Saiki had a beautiful interception on the ensuing series and got the ball back.  The Saxons went to work and went with a little razzle dazzle with Aaron Roberts getting the ball on a reverse and throwing to a wide open Jason Bates who made a nice grab for 34 yards. At the end of 3 it was 23-6.

With 5:45 left in the fourth quarter and the ball on the Prep 49, Conner Halliday dropped back and threw a beautiful ball that Aaron Roberts caught and ran into the end zone untouched.  With the score 30-6, Gonzaga was forced to go to the air and Andrew Weigand made a jump on the ball and made an interception that really sealed the game.  Enter QB Derek Peterson who moved the second team down the field.  He hit Shanon Winant over the middle with a nifty pass and catch and scored to finish out Ferris' scoring.

OLD MAN MINN Notes:  Conner Halliday looked real good - threw for 266yds and 3 TD's....It was a pretty large crowd, but Ferris took the home field advantage away quickly, keeping them quiet - which is how we like the Prep fans :).....Defensive line played awesome, Elliot Bosch and JD Robinson in particular made some great stops and had great pursuit....Ferris played part of the third and all of the fourth quarter without Nate Tonani who appeared to be having leg cramps.....Prep didn't attempt a pass until 28 seconds remaining in the first half and the first completion was a tipped ball that the QB caught himself.....Since Gonzaga got their new field 3 years ago they have only lost 2 games - to guess who??.....Looking forward - Mead next week.  They squeaked by Mt. Spokane and were beat soundly by LC 28-7....Sorry no pics from game this week.
