PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS:

We all know preseason picks don't mean a lot, but here's what people are saying

From the Spokesman

Local HS sports reporter Mike Vlahovich from the Spokesman makes the following GSL predictions:

1) Ferris - Ferris keeps knocking on the Gridiron Classic door and have the pieces in place for a third straight GSL championship. WSU-bound Halliday put up terrific numbers last year. Receivers Bates and Tonani will replace Aaron Roberts (who incidentally was to factor at Montana before season ending ACL injury in practice). The line is deep and talented. Oiland and  Poole, injured much of last season, are Division 1 recruits. Injuries to players at times last year meant a wealth of experience gained for others, like linebacker Anderson, back Orosco, and lineman Beschel.

2) Mt. Spokane

3) G-Prep

4) Mead

5) Lewis and Clark

6) Central Valley

7) University

8) Shadle Park

9) East Valley

10) Rogers

11) North Central

Fall Practice finishes with Scrimmage

The Ferris Saxon football team held their scrimmage this last weekend prior to getting completely focused on next Thursdays season opener versus NC.  The scrimmage began at

9:00am on Saturday and the weather was actually pleasant despite the rain that was falling.

Coach Sharkey was happy with the scrimmage and was able to get a look at the varsity players and get a final evaluation as prepares the team for NC.

Ferris opens the season this week on Thursday night against the North Central Indians.  The game is set to begin at 6:30pm at Joe Albi stadium.

FOOTBALL TEAM IS BIG KAHUNA - BACK TO BACK TO BACK

The Ferris Saxons Football team made a trip - a LONG trip - to Burnaby B.C. this last weekend to defend their 7 on 7 championship.  And they made the most of their trip - the Saxons beat Kelowna in the championship to go undefeated and win the tournament for a third year in a row.

The Saxons went undefeated through pool play and kept their streak alive by securing the championship.  Coach Sharkey was very happy with the teams play stating "We played really well."  Connor Halliday was voted tournament MVP and Jordan Tonani made the All-Tournament team.  Congratulations boys - keep working hard in the off-season and you'll continue with success throughout the 2009 season.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CONNOR HALLIDAYSPOKANE QB GOES CRIMSON

Connor Halliday starts of his senior summer by committing to the WSU Cougars.  Halliday was offered from WSU nearly two weeks ago and according to CougFan.com he has committed to the Cougars.  Halliday said the coaching staff was a big reason for him making his decision.  Congrats to Connor and his family on this exciting news! Connor is the third in a string of Ferris QBs to go on and play at the DivI level.  He follows Caleb Rath (San Diego St) and Jeff Minnerly (EWU).
